Welcome to HIT COVERS, documenting the UK cover version LPs
What's it all about?
This site is an attempt to make a permanent record of the pop cover version LPs which were put out by budget labels such as MFP, Marble Arch, Windmill, Contour and so on.
Which albums are included?
The site lists long-term album series, not one-off LPs (a series is defined here as a run of three or more albums). It is also restricted to albums rounding up current pop hits. Other types of covers LPs (eg those paying tribute to a particular act) are not included here. A further restriction is that the identity of the groups behind the recordings is left anonymous, with one or two exceptions. For example, we decided to include the three regular album series which have Mike Morton's name against them. Morton may not have been involved in all of these LPs, and the recordings are often the same as on the other LPs on this site.
How can I locate a specific song or LP?
Use the search tool at the top of this page. All spellings of song titles on this site are standardised, according to those used in the original chart listings, and we ignore the many individual variations and spelling errors evident on the LP covers. Note: the search results may include advertisements at the top!
Who owns the copyright on these images. Can I copy them?
The creators of the original LP covers own them, regardless of who reproduces them. The majority of the images here are LPs photographed by myself, but nonetheless the copyright is theirs. A small number of images I have reproduced from other websites over the years, as part of my research. If you see one of your photos here and have any objection, please contact me and I will add a credit, or remove it if you wish.
I love these LPs too!
