UK Hit Covers... on 7-inch EP
In the early 1960s, the EP was the central format for cover versions of hit songs, with numerous labels such as Cannon, Top Six, Six Hit and so on, releasing lengthy streams of 7-inch discs. Here is not the place to examine them, although there is a detailed overview available on our "History" page.
What this section deals with, specifically, are EPs (and, in the case of MFP, singles) which constitute spin-offs from the LP series on this site. In keeping with the trends of the day, it tends to be the early series which have spin-off EPs - "...Hits...", "Top of the Pops", "England's Top 12" etc, and by the early 1970s these are largely (though not entirely) out of fashion.
We have structured this section in pages which pertain directly to the parent LP series. Below is a list of LP series which have spin-off EPs. Often, EP releases spanned two or more LP series, and although the EPs are listed together, they can be linked in the list below through any of the contributing LP series titles. For example, clicking on "Studio 33" and "England's 12 Top Hits" will take you to the same page, where all the Avenue label EPs can be seen.
