UK Hit Covers albums... around the world
The hit covers album idea was by no means confined to the UK. Indeed, several overseas countries had their own covers series, built on the same principle as the UK albums - and in some cases, they even pre-date them. The Netherlands for example was issuing hit cover versions on LP through the Fontana label, some while before the UK series "Sounds Like Hits" was created. Elsewhere we have well-known and long-lasting independent series, such as South Africa's "Springbok" albums on MFP, which number around 70, West Germany's 50 or so "Europa Hit Parade" LPs, or the French "Hit Parade Chante", of which probably 60 or so were issued.
But here is not the place to deal with these.
What we are interested in are the UK albums - but pressed and packaged in overseas territories - in other words, foreign editions of the LPs feautured on this website.
The full scope of these is barely known, and we have to concede that what we have catalogued here is merely scratching the surface of what was released around the world. It is our intention to add to this data as and when new information comes our way, so this section should be seen as a work in progress. We have sorted our known overseas pressings according to the UK album series they correspond with, rather than a country-by-country system. Clicking each album series below will take you to what we have on record for each series, as issued around the world...
